Jeff McKinnon has been Theatre Arts Director at Santa Ynez High school since 2001, directing over 40 productions, including appearances in 2005 (The Circuit) and 2008 (Indians) at the International Fringe Theatre Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland. As an actor he has performed professionally for over 30 years in local and regional theatres, and has toured internationally in Scandinavia, Greece and Cyprus. He has performed regionally in Chicago, Milwaukee, Seattle, and San Francisco, and is proud of being a graduate of the Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts (PCPA). As an instructor his passions lie in classical theatre, clowning & physical theatre, puppetry and mask. Mr. McKinnon holds an MFA in Theatre from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and an MAT in Secondary Language Arts Education from Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago.
The SYVUHS Theatre Group offers students an opportunity to experience the most collaborative of the Fine Arts through collegiate-level theatre arts instruction and after-school productions. Theatre training provides students with valuable life skills by building confidence, discipline, cooperation, and character.
Students in Mr.McKinnon's theatre classes will experience world theatre with heavy doses of influence from Shakespeare, Stanislavski, Augusto Boal, Tadashi Suzuki, and Peter Schumann and The Bread & Puppet Theatre. All assignments are completed in class with the exception of two 500 word reviews of the two school plays, due one week after the closings of the fall & spring productions, respectively.
