Welcome to the study of history! I am very excited to work with each and every student in my classroom. Together, we can make this an exciting, enriching, and altogether enjoyable year! Allow me to introduce myself…
I was born and raised in Goleta and graduated from Dos Pueblos High School. Several inspirational teachers had a direct and profound impact on me during my time in school; in doing so, they all played a major role in fueling my desire to become an educator. During a trip to the east coast with my mother and grandparents when I was eight years old, a stop at the Gettysburg battlefield in Pennsylvania ignited a lifelong passion for history.
Following high school, I majored in history at UCSB. After earning a masters degree in history from the University of South Carolina, I spent six years working in publishing before returning to UCSB to earn a masters degree in education and teaching credential. I completed my student teaching at San Marcos High School and taught for one year at Buena High School before finding my home here at SYHS. My wife also teaches locally in the valley and we live in Santa Ynez with our cat named Charlie (aka "Mr. Kitty").
Among my many other passions, music stands out as the most significant. Everything about music gives me an emotional thrill, so it’s no surprise that I ended up becoming a musician. I mainly play guitar, although I dabble in drums and am eager to try any other instrument I can get my hands on.
Oh…and I LOVE to laugh and be completely silly. It is my sincere hope that a spirit of joy and fun can go hand-in-hand with the rigorous exploration of history we will undertake together this year.
