On Saturday, November 28, the Santa Ynez Pirates boys cross country team were proud to bring home the 2015 Division IV Cross Country State Championship--the first state championship in any sport in the long and storied 119-year history of Santa Ynez High School! Coach David Jackson reports, "Johnny Jimenez, a senior, destroyed his own school record on the legendary course by 20 seconds! He ran the 5k course in 15 minutes and 41 seconds and lead our team to victory with his 10th place finish. That's 5:02 minute miles for 3.1 miles. Our MVP, Brian Illes, also broke the old school record with his time of 15:52. Tommy Hill, a junior, moved up throughout the race and finished at 16:13. Our captain, Grehson Smith, ran 16:30. Cody Hill, also a junior, clinched our victory by crossing the finish line at 16:52. Our diesel engine, Eric Moniot and our captain from last season, Dennis Rojas, concluded their careers as our 6th and 7th runners, respectively."
The student body celebrated their victory at a rally in The Pit during break on Tuesday. We are all so proud of all of the athletes and coaches:
